SNACK

Obesity is a growing public health issue throughout the Caribbean region. School nutrition programs and healthy food choice education are needed to reverse the trend at the onset of the excess weight gain. The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service funded SDSU for hosting a School Nutrition Advancement for Caribbean Kids (SNACK) Workshop for three fellows from St. Lucia. In this two-week workshop, the fellows learned from experts in the field of foods and nutrition about various topics related to nutrition and physical activity. The fellows also visited San Diego-area schools, farms, community gardens, health promotion centers, and government offices.
Nutrition education resources were disseminated for implementation in St. Lucia.
